Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-03

Aloud ("we", "us") is a spoken-English practice app for iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, who else handles it on our behalf, and how you can delete it.

If you only read one thing: your voice and transcripts are processed to give you real-time conversation practice; we never sell your data; you can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app at any time.

1. Who we are

Aloud is built and operated by an independent developer (3kyou3). For any privacy question or data-rights request, contact 2604256025@qq.com.

2. The information we collect

Account information. When you sign in with Apple, we receive a Supabase user ID, and — only on the very first sign-in for this Apple ID — the name you choose to share via Apple. We never receive your Apple ID password. Apple may share an obfuscated relay email; we do not currently store that email.

Profile data you provide. Your display name, gender (or "unspecified"), daily learning goal, learning interests, CEFR level estimate, and the native language you selected for the app's interface ("L1"). All of this is editable inside the app.

Voice and transcripts. During a Speak session, your microphone audio is streamed in real time to our speech-to-text provider — Deepgram, an AI speech service in the United States — to produce a written transcript. Your transcript, together with your profile (name, native language, level, interests, goal) and the facts Koi has remembered about you, is then sent to Google's Gemini AI (United States) to generate Koi's reply, and is summarized into a short profile of your interests and recurring topics. Long-form audio is not retained on our servers; only the resulting text is stored.

Vocabulary. Words you save while tapping a caption, their pronunciation, part of speech, and definition in your selected L1, plus your "learned" progress.

Practice statistics. Total minutes practiced, current streak, per-day minute log (for the monthly progress report), and longest single session per month.

Subscription state. Whether you are an Aloud Pro subscriber, your renewal/expiry dates, and a transaction identifier. Apple processes the actual payment; we never receive your card details.

Local notifications. The days and times you choose for daily reminders, stored on your device and on our servers so they can sync across your devices.

Feedback. If you submit feedback inside the app, we store the message text, your account ID, your app version, your iOS version, and your device model so we can reproduce issues.

Diagnostic data. Standard crash logs are provided to Apple only if you opt in via iOS Settings. We do not run our own analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or fingerprinting service.

3. Who processes your data on our behalf

Aloud uses the following third-party processors. Each one receives only the minimum needed to perform its function.

We do not use advertising networks. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.

4. Why we process this data

We rely on your consent (when you sign in and start a Speak session you knowingly send voice data to our processors), on the performance of the contract between us, and on our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure and improving it.

5. How long we keep it

6. Your rights

You can, at any time and from inside the app:

You also have the right to ask us for a copy of your data, to ask us to correct it, to object to or restrict processing, and (where local law grants this right) to lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority. Email 2604256025@qq.com.

7. Children

Aloud is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher floor). Do not use Aloud if you are below that age. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

8. International transfers

Our backend is hosted in the United States, and the text embeddings for the memory feature are processed by Google in the United States. Only as a fallback — if the primary speech providers are unavailable — speech-to-text and text-to-speech may be processed in mainland China by Alibaba Cloud (and by MiniMax, only if you enable it). By using Aloud you understand that your data may be processed in jurisdictions other than your own. We rely on the providers' published security and contractual safeguards.

9. Security

Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Row-level security limits database access to your own rows. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a vulnerability, please report it to 2604256025@qq.com.

10. Changes

We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy when it changes. Material changes will be surfaced inside the app before they take effect.
